Supplements

When I was in high school, I was not big on taking supplements. I ate the right foods, and did my workouts. Now, teaching in a high school, I see a lot more supplementation. I guess teaching PE and Weight Lifting, I will see a lot more of that stuff. I just don't remember it being so prevalent when I was in high school 10 years ago. Most students don't even know what they are taking. They use it because of what they hear about it. Now I will say I do take supplements now, but I know exactly what I am putting into my body.

  1. I haven't really noticed any of my athletes taking supplements, but that could be because I coach girl's volleyball. I will agree that there is much more hype about taking supplements and having protein shakes and all that jazz.

I agree that I don't know if these kids know what they are putting into their bodies. I'm sure some of them are taking supplements under the supervision of a doctor or parent, but I bet some of them are taking them unsupervised as well.

Have you had any problems with them taking these supplements? I must admit, my "workout drug" of choice is chocolate milk as a recovery drink :)

  2. That is funny, because my wife drank chocolate milk as a recovery drink while she was running track/crosscountry at Wichita State. As for problems with the students taking the supplements, I have not noticed any problems, or heard of any problems from the students. My biggest worry is that the students are more excited about getting bigger and stronger than being worried about the side affects.
